This Center within the department of Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is located in the UPMC Cancer Pavilion, together with the Centers for Pathology Oncology and Informatics.

Directed by Stephen S. Raab, M.D., Professor of Pathology, Chief of Pathology at UPMC Shadyside it is the first academic center devoted exclusively to research related to anatomic pathology practice, services, and quality improvement.

CDC has sponsored the Laboratory Medicine Best Practices Initiative (LMBP) initiative to address the need for a more systematic, multi-disciplinary, comprehensive, and transparent approach to identifying, evaluating, and recommending best practices for the field.
