Re: Imaging system
> I am curious to know of any negative experiences any of you have had with the imaging system. I know it misses LSILS and I have heard from former colleagues of it missing HSILs and higher in their labs. Has anyone experienced such??
I would refer you to the following article, http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/498518_3, From American Journal of Clinical Pathology:
Assisted Primary Screening Using the Automated ThinPrep? Imaging System
Charles V. Biscotti, MD; Andrea E. Dawson, MD; Bruce Dziura, MD; Luis Galup, MD; Teresa Darragh, MD; Amir Rahemtulla, MD; Lisa Wills-Frank?, MD
In addition, here is a link to the data in that paper, http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/498518_Tables#T1.
"...TISThinPrep Imaging System-assisted screening was statistically more sensitive than manual screening for atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASCUS) or higher (+) and statistically equivalent for low- (LSIL)+ and high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL)+ diagnoses. ..."
Bottomline...performs pretty equivalent to a cytotechnologist (excluding ASCUS). So, there will be misses. But definitely, read and download the article for your references. A lot of good information here. This tool is intended to aid the cytotechnologist and help alleviate fatigue and improve productivity.
